Sunday night, 3:17am and a 22 year-old male signs in to have a wart removed from his index finger.
Said wart had been present for about six months. It had not gotten larger, more painful, redder or had any drainage. He had not tried any over the counter medications or seen his doctor for the wart.
So what in the world made it an emergency Sunday at 3:17? Well you know, I had to ask that very question. And you know the answer?
"I just got tired of it."

Hmmm, removal of said wart should be be done without benifit of analgesic/numbing agent. Then perhaps, he may think twice about 3 am ED visits.

Look at it this way -- at least it was on his finger, and not on his peen.
Hysterical! I always have this image of a person laying in bed, suddenly sitting up, proclaiming "Enough! I've had enough! Tonight is the night I will seek help for my... (fill in the blank) that I've had for two years!" It never ceases to amaze me...

Tell them you will remove the wart - but the caveat is that the finger will come off with it.
Hey, at least he was honest about his reasoning :) Defintely not the best reason ever, but hey, honesty is a plus :)
Common answer. NEVER ceases to amaze me. I LIKE the belt sander idea.
If I were the doc, I would write a prescription, "get a life". I bet he'd go to the pharmacy and try to fill it...
Overheard at the ED triage desk:
"I Came beacasus I've had a dry cough for the past two years"
sounds like the patient that i got that came in with an ingrown toenail that he had for a week. thankfully, his wait was long enough for him that he left without being seen. he doesn't know how lucky he was, too - he would have gotten an earful from the doc that night!!!

Do you mean, "Does it hurt to be as ignorant as you are?" instead of "What makes this any different that you decided to come to the ER at 3am?"
