How Low Can You Go?

Grandma has terminal breast cancer that has metastasized to her bones causing agonizing pain - she is in our ER tonight because her pain is out of control. She has a great oncologist who has prescribed her plenty of Morphine so why is her pain out of control? Because her grandson has been stealing her morphine and taking it to get high.

So tell me again how narcotic abuse doesn't hurt anyone.

Grandson ought to be pistol-whipped and set on fire -- then "put out" with a bucket of isopropyl alcohol.

Jesus.

I'd give his parents an earful, and call the police on his ass.

There was a news story in my town of similar pain medicine thefts, but the culprits were caregivers in a cancer hospice. The patients were given vitamin pills as substitutes. Undercover investigation showed this practice to be on the rise due to the ease of taking advantage of elderly people.

This isn't the same as if I was shooting heroin at home and not hurting anyone else.

"Abuse" is when the rights of others have been violated without their just consent.

Your description of this lowlife scum as "grandson" is charitable. Unprintable words are all that come to my mind...

These people are scumbags. I have the misfortune to have a barely-studied illness where my kidneys bleed, and I get clots in my kidneys and urethra every fourth day or so, with steadily compounding pain as they build up. My brother is a combat medical technician. He can't stand to see me writhing, but I've told him I don't want him to intervene, That's not his business.

I take the minimum of morhpine (10mg oral) to get through my days, and my 60 hour weeks as a teacher. My docotor has to jump through endless hoops to cover his ass and write pain meds, and I carefully keep pain diaries, take anti nausea meds, and work my ass of, so that people who abuse narcotics can make my life more difficult. Thanks a lot.

When my doctor went on holiday, my stand-in physician refused to prescribe. I accepted his professional judgement and din't make a fuss. My wife turned up a week later, and howled that I hadn't had sleep. I took her back to the car and explained it's not up to us- doctors have their own pressures, and if they're even sui\spected of giving narcotics to abusers they lose their careers.
So I took paracetemol, and went to work. I didn't whine, I didn't doctor shop.

Finally, my doctor came back, and we went back on my 4-year lo0ng carefully prescribed plan.

So, screw the abusers, they make life more difficult for me. I just want pain relief, my job and my family. I don't want to trouble ERs while they are busy saving lives.

Than your for your hard work ER nurse.

Jails are too costly now. Should we make whipping legal for certain crimes now?

Remove this guy's testicles without anesthesia, purée them in a food processor, then inject that matter into his carotid artery.

Sociopath? Mhmm, perhaps. But I get seriously peeved when these bottom feeding animals hurt old people. Grr.
