This is a NASA satellite picture of California with pictures of all the fires - represented in red. Notice the smoke. I drove home today in an eerie yellow fog, ash falling gently onto my car. The interstate was strangely empty for a Tuesday at rush hour. Our ER is beginning to be over run by patients with respiratory issues - fortunately most people have air conditioning so they stay shut up in their homes with the A/C running. Many of the fires are burning in unreachable areas so they will just be let burn while the fire fighters concentrate on areas where dwellings are threatened.

And it is only the beginning of the fire season. At least 4 more months before will can expect to get rain.

More dry lightning is expected for the end of the week.

And we all thought earthquakes would destroy California.

But what I love about the picture is that you can see that the coast's natural air conditioning is in place.

We were told yesterday that it would be hazy here because of the fires there, and today, it looks gray enough to rain, and all the resp pts are going crazy. (NM)

I'd be having "Silent Hill" flashes, driving through the ash like that. Just looking at that picture is making me wheeeeeeze.

hmmm...I was out doing errands yesterday and the air very much smelled all campfirey and my mailperson was wearing a scarf around her face. We are most definately at height of fashion.

Wow - it is weird to hear you say "fire season"! We just don't get that back east (Thank God).

California (specifically the tip of the northern Sacramento Valley) will be destroyed by synthetic chemical(s). Fire, no. Tremblers, no. Mistral, no. Meth, yes.

Oh, must not forget to include sanctimony, yes.

Hi ER Nurse, What town do you practice in? I'm supposed to go on a visit to Mill Valley in Marin County in for a couple of weeks. I am strongly considering cancelling the trip. I had pneumonia in January an am afraid of a relapse if the air quality is really that bad. How bad is the air in the Bay Area. Do you advise out of staters to stay put?
